MEET RICHARD AND SHERRYÂ
In January 2001, Richard (Dickie) and Sherry Browning were called to serve on a mission trip to Uganda, Africa, after doors had closed on their previous plans in Honduras. During that trip, they met Harold Cathey, director of the Ugandan ministry through Global Outreach of Tupelo, Mississippi. Together, they set a date for a two-week mission in Uganda.
After returning to the United States, and following three months of prayer and reflection, they sensed a clear call from God to “Go!” They sold their home, vehicles, and possessions—keeping only what could accompany them to Uganda. They initially served under Global Outreach for one year before being led to launch their own ministry in 2002, founded on the words of John 21:6. Thus, Filling His Nets Ministry, Inc. was born.
Richard and Sherry arrived in Jinja, Uganda on October 8, 2001, beginning their new life as full-time missionaries. Led by the Holy Spirit, they followed God’s direction to the Iganga and Mayuge Districts, where they established a Mother Church to feed, train, and equip disciples and lead many to Jesus Christ. God's sovereignty has continued to guide their work and transform lives through the ministry of Filling His Nets.

MEET NELSON
Â
In June 2002, while leading a women’s Bible study in the village of Busowobi, Sherry Browning was asked to pray for an infant boy. She and Richard visited a nearby mud hut, where they found an 11-month-old baby named Nelson—severely malnourished, weighing just six pounds, and wrapped in soiled cloth. His family, overwhelmed by poverty, could only feed him a cold sweet potato every other day.
Despite early efforts to provide food and supplies, Nelson’s condition worsened. With the family's permission, Richard and Sherry took him to a doctor in Jinja, where he was treated for severe anemia, infections, and parasites. After just six weeks of loving care, Nelson gained 12 pounds and began to thrive.
When they returned him to his village, Nelson’s family—moved by the transformation—asked the Brownings to raise him. On August 8, 2002, Nelson became their foster child. Legal guardianship followed in 2003, and adoption was completed in 2004.
Today, Nelson is a vibrant young man with dual citizenship, a love for sports, and a story of redemption that continues to inspire the mission of Filling His Nets.
